Visit the home of one of the wonders of the world, the Tag Mahal. Built by an emperor as an extravagant memorial to his wife, the mausoleum’s porcelain white marble is an emblem of romance, love and adventure. Agra itself sits in the shadow of its imposing monument but is a small and welcoming city. The ancient Mughal-era Agra Fort is an attractive spot to visit – peer over the walls here and catch your first hypnotizing glimpse of the Taj.

Places to Visit:

• Taj Mahal- is made of pure marble and is located on the south bank of the Yamuna river, Agra. It was commissioned by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1632.
• Red Fort- is a historic fort in Agra and every year the Prime Minister holds the national flag at the front gate of the Red Fort.
• Tomb of Itmad ud daulah- is often known as the draft of the Taj Mahal due to the likeness between them two, it is the Mughal Mausoleum of the city.
• Akbar's Tomb- is the tomb of the Mughal Emperor, Akbar and is an important Mughal architectural masterpiece. It was built from 1605 to 1613.
• Fatehpur Sikri- was founded by the 16th-century emperor and red sandstone buildings cluster at its centre.
• Jahangir Mahal- was built between 1605 and 1626, it was home to Jahangir, a Mughal Emperor.
• Khas Mahal- also known as Aramgah-I-Muqaddar and it was a private palace built by Shah Jahan for his daughters Roshnara and Jahanara.
• Diwan I am- is a room where the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan and members of his parliament listened to public grievances.
• Diwan I kas- was a chamber built in the Red Fort built in 1571 for receptions. It was the place where Mughal Emperor Akhbar received courtiers and high-end guests.
• Moti Masjid- is another one of the many buildings that were built during Shah Jahan’s rule. This masjid earned the epithet Pearl Mosque as it shone like a pearl.
• Nagina Masjid- is a masjid built in the Red fort by Shah Jahan. Also known as the jem mosque or the Jewel Mosque.
• Jama Masjid- is one of the largest mosques in India and was built by Shah Jahan between 1650 and 1656.
• Chini Ka Rauza- is a funerary monument which contains the tomb of Allama Afzal Khan Mullah, a scholar and poet who used to be the Prime Minister of the Mughal empire.
• Mehtab Bagh- is located opposite the Taj Mahal and provides a beautiful viewpoint of the Taj. This garden measures 300 metres by 300 metres and can be seen in many of the images of the Taj.
• Taj Museum- was established in 1906 by Lord Curzon(Viceroy of India). This museum is also known as the Taj Mahal Museum as it contains history about the Taj and how it came to be.
• Jaswant Chhatri Ki Chhatri- is common to Rajasthani architecture, built-in 1644 to 1658, and is said to be the only monument to have been built by a Hindu in Agra during the Mughal era.
• Mankameshwar Temple- is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, and is located near Agra Fort Railway Station. The Shivling of Lord Shiva in the temple is covered with silver metal.
• Bateshwar- is a village situated in the Agra District and sits on the banks of Yamuna. This village is an important spiritual and cultural centre for Hindus and Jains. It is also known for the 101 Shiv Complex.
